TKPs for the hills

  • Looking to get a fresh double kick cruiser/tech slide/general mess around board set up this winter and was planning on getting my Indys that i've owned for years dialed in with all new urethane. What brands are making quality street bushings today? Or are there other TKPs that I should consider before committing to refreshing my Indys? It's been a long time since I freshened them up and I haven't been paying attention to that corner of the market the past few years. I want the setup to feel capable on hills, but it will primarily be for urban exploration, so nothing too stiff or restrictive.

Related: also open to deck suggestions for the same setup, was leaning towards the Bustin Yoface unless anyone has an old Bruno Pro Yoface they'd be willing to part with.

    Weight:130lbs

  • @Emmet Kabel Disclaimer- wrongboarding retails Pantheon, but, I have to suggest the pantheon stylus tkp trucks, they run longboard bushings with a plug barrel but are still faced. Only tkp trucks on the market to do that... Super nice for lean and stability without comprimising for street stuff. They also got hollow axle/kp so they don't weigh a bunch.

If you are redoing the indys they stock their own bushings, if you want to keep it simple, thats what I would do. If you want to take the time to figure out the best posible bushings try some riptide bushing formulas, though I wouldn't take my time doing that personally.

There's a 36 x 9.25 in double kick that a few brands white-label with a few extra inches of wheelbase over a standard street deck that is real nice. Commet I beleive has somthing similar out that looks good too. The yoface is better than the first deck I mentioned 100% imo, but costs more.

  • Currently prepping to test making an insert bushing for indys. Will let yall know if it works.

  • I have never seen the “pantheon stylus” trucks, but for all I know about trucks in general and being someone who has done a lot of tech slide.... they look awesome and now I want some. The concept is great and the construction is light but very strong thanks to the hollow axle and kingpin and the high pressure casting (halfway between casting and forging).

Also thanks to the socket bushings they will surely beat any tkp cast trucks in stability and the faced axles will keep your bearings perfectly aligned. They also claim that the axle itself is very, very straight, wich is great.

I know I haven't tested them, but I have seen this type of technology applied to RKP over time and oh boy these improvements really make a difference. Just from the research I've been doing, probably the best cast TKP to go fast right now and I can't wait to try them. 😬😬😬

  • That pantheon truck looks nice.

If you're just tuning the indies, may I suggest venom eliminator bottom and a bones street hardcore cone up top. That takes off some of the end range lean but leaves a smooth loose center. I used to tune my doublekicks like that maybe 10 years ago. Not sure if they still make venom eliminator tbh

  • I have a dk setup

I bring it = it seems to get ripped by everyone & favorably

My homie suggested the barrell-barrell setup when I got the jmduran board.

I have Indy 169s and the bushings work for

everything , very well.  I thought I would add this for you to consider if tuning tkp indys.

    I use a mini-logo bushing hard/medium ( based on your weight) boardside.

I run a pats riser insert in between bushings .

Roadside , I use a krank street barrel ( based on the riptide sggstd weight) , in my instance, 87a.

I use a small flat washer roadside only.

the riptide Krank durometer allows me subtle adjustability depending on the type of skating.

it is quite a solid yet very responsive full turn response from the trucks. superb rtc & no washer necessary on bs takes its ' nice' up a level

    I use 1/4" risers for leverage .

      I weigh a buck-fortyfive , fwiw.

  • @Jefe W This is the kind of specification I'm here for, was considering Kranks but wasn't sure if the adjustability would become more of a hinderance than a help.

  • @Gabriel Fockler Finally, a use for these damn eliminators that I've owned for years

  • Aces are dope. Indys will only fit old venom eliminators (you can tell the difference because they have a dip for a spherical bearing and seam along the outside). Aces fit them if you don't run washers, it's fine

  • @Jefe W Looks like we have the same deck, great board ;) Mine is setup with Indy's 159 and barrel/cone Riptide Krank.

  • @Antoine I've wondered what 159s vrs my 169s would feel like.  I am a little in❤️ w my jmduran slidewinder. Its an easy deck to do anything on. It makes me wish my legs were 20something instead of the age they are , fr
