I attempted making homemade pucks when I first started this hobby seriously (2023). I used a half inch thick normal cutting board, and it worked but I quickly realized that these pucks wear down too fast to make them worth the effort of cutting them, velcro, etc.
It's my understanding that most brand name pucks use Delrin or some type of acetal copolymer plastic like this:

Wondering mostly if anyone else has tried this or has any input on the specific plastic I should be trying to use.
Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (uhmw) is what most of the slide pucks we are using is cut from .
Hi, I recently got into making my own pucks, because I burn through a lot of them at skate events. UHMW Polyethylene is by far the best material and lasts way longer than the HDPE of your basic cutting board.
This is the most cost efficient 1/2 inch UHMW PE board I've found thus far : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09XL6BZXJ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

You can get 12 pucks each one 3 1/4 inch in diameter from one 12/12 board if you are careful. I use a hole saw on a cordless drill to cut them out.

I then chuck them on my drill with a 1/4 inch bolt to round/clean off the edges.
For velcro I reccomend this brand:

I had tried a few others, but this one has the best adhesive and hooks.
On my first try I had made a bunch of rectangular pucks, but found the clean up with a rasp/file and router was a lot more work. If you only have a circular saw/hand saw this is an option.

Over all each round puck comes out to $1.42 if you don't count the cost of tools I already had.
@Josh McCarthy those look amazing, thank you for the info!
Where do you get the UHMW?
