Freeride wheels on narrow trucks?

  • So I have a freeride setup and a downhill setup, but sometimes when travelling I can only bring one and prefer the downhill setup. But, sometimes I'd like to be chill and not go crazy.

Has anyone here put freeride wheels on their downhill setup with narrow trucks?

For reference the downhill setup are valk slaloms, 110 width, 45/10. I also have a weight on it.

  • I ride freeride wheels on my small setup all the time. Rocket racetail, zealous spaced to 125mm, whatever centerset freeride wheels.

It might be a little narrow, but the wheels are slick so it isn't a problem. You can also run green kevins for an all around wheel. If necessary you can flip the kevins for a few more mms, but I don't bother.

    Pic for reference

  • Im crafting up some 74mm round lips for this senario 😋

  • You can skate with small freeride wheels on narrow trucks and they feel great. It's much more aggressive and “less surfy” than going 180mm on a big board, but it's totally enjoyable.

I sometimes use green Kevins or Cult Chronicle on my race setup (Dont Trip 45/25 20” wb) and it rides amazing. If you can adjust the width of the hanger I do recommend going as wide as possible for maximum sliding fun though.

  • @shmaelius yeah just run them as wide as theyll go and put on something slidey. Small boards feel better with kevos rather than small round lips imo. Id grab some of the 77a yellow ones.

  •  @Jon LaPlant I agree with the Kevin's on split angle , narrow asf race setups.  I generally have my super scrubbed fr mags , race mags or deltas on my dh board. Whenever I wanna really hit my neighborhood, tho, I go w Kevin's - preferably scrubbed- on the 124mm spaced option on my ronin.  scrubbed race Kevin's make you feel like your going much faster than you actually are in culdesacs

(Primos feel great as small fr wheel on <130mm hangers)

  • Just give it a go. I think It depends on your trucks. I m struggling to hold out stand ups on my rogues but the zealous trucks work great for freeride.

Your valks should be great for freeride though.

  • Blank Wheel Co slates, in the pave freeride wheels in a moderate DH shape
