Roast mySetup, O. FOX, Zia Trucks

  • @Brian Lugbill people aren't skating spots like that on the daily. I live in sd and have been to Angie's. Your point is stupid because most spots aren't like that and powells are good under 40mph.

  • @Gabriel Fockler

    the thing is..

The best hills are the steepest. Generally..the triad of Hills: Steep, Curvy, Banked (opposite of off camber)

the Gradual Maryhill/Tepe/GMR/Lookout style hill.. 5/6% Grade.. are not nearly as Fun

  • @Brian Lugbill great. That's your idea of the best hill, and maybe there you wouldn't ride powells. That's fine, but to say that they are categorically bad wheels is wrong

  • @Brian Lugbill yeah definitely venoms are designed for maximizing your speed whereas powells are for maximizing your drift. It's like comparing performance track tires to drift tires. You do have a point Powell have a much lower speed at which they can lose control, but the same time there's no many factors that can play into how any wheel performs. Rider weight, setup, hill, weather, wind speed and form. I'm not saying your hill isn't gnarly but at this current time there is lots of great riders riding very different things. So perhaps there is a rider that can ride powells down any road but his setup or style suits the wheels or vice versa. No hate on your setup and your wheel choices are not bad, but I think most people think you could maximize your grip by having narrow trucks and a heavier split. But the world is your oyster, longboards are very customizable. My friend rides a 17 inch wheelbase dk with wide trucks, so because it works for someone else doesn't mean it's going to work for you. But yeah respect thanks for the history, that's cool to know some origins of venom.

i mean this hill is very steep with lots of banked corners and he's gripping lots of corners while riding snakes. Snakes can be taken to the limit the same as any other wheel. Aaron Hampshire rides aeras and I think he's one of the most stylish dh/hands down skater ever, not to assume he's skated magnolia but I'm sure he could on aeras. All I'm saying is, maybe Powell or aera products don't work for you or your friends. Some people find them to be competent enough, me personally I ride lots of different wheels from powells to sector 9 to orangatang and venom. I think ever wheel has its strong suits and its weak sides depending on application.
