DIY Insert Bushings

  • Getting back into the longboarding scene after doing other stuff for 12 years, I noticed the issue of "slop" in trucks was well documented. I went to check my Atlas trucks which I had purchased back then for the cool tech they advertised (machined pivots, 10mm axles, etc), and was amazed at the amount of free movement between hanger and baseplate before the bushings engaged.

I wanted some insert bushings, but found that none existed for the Atlas trucks. So I made some. Started with a stock indy barrel (one of few spare bushings I had laying around) and cut it down to the necessary thickness:

I traced the shape of the kingpin hole:

And cut out the rough shape with scissors. After that I used a Dremel to shape the bushing the rest of the way:

The first one came out looser than the second (practice round), but both should be usable. Have yet to test them, but from articulating the trucks by hand they feel a lot less sloppy. I still need to replace the stock nylon pivots with Riptide ones, there's still noticable play there.

  • Pats risers makes some I bet, nice tho

  • @Matt Needs Wheels I did look beforehand, couldn't find any on their website
