Board Weight vs. No Board Weight

  • Hot take: running a weight on a small board is cheating.

Change my mind. Convince me to run one.

    How much weight you running?

  • @Teplitzskate

    skating with shoes is cheating

  • @Teplitzskate 3lb rocket weight, having skated the same board with and without a weight it allows you to slide further and break traction a little easier

  • I run a low hanging 420 grams hammer head straigt behind my front truck. I don't feel like it makes my slides signifcantly longer or easyer to pull, but it makes the board way more predictable, aka, less highsides and smoother transition from slide to grip.

I tried a 1.5kg scuba diving weight before, flat to the board and a bit far from the front truck, that one made my slides significantly longer and easier to pull but affected the predictability of the board very much the same way than the lighter hammer weight... so there's that.

Also, I feel like Spanish roads are very very grippy and rough so the hammer helps a lot with that, but I also skated in Australia recently and I don't think I need it there at all, everything is way smoother and slidey on average.

I think that the wheigt of your board and how it is distributed changes its feel and maneuverability, so getting it right is very important and using weights is just a way to adjust that 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️. I'ts just another thing you can play with, just as bushings, stoppers, wheels and such.
