Micro drop analysis video in the works. What micro drop decks should I add to the video?

  •  I'm working on making a micro drop analysis video where I critique the concave, the drop, and the effective standing platform of each board and how it's suits particular styles from a design standpoint.  I plan on reviewing the prism theory, the Pantheon sacrifice, and the Foster Hydra. Are there any other micro drop free ride decks that you think would add to the video and help people find the right board for them?

  • Im ready to watch the vid when its out frfr

  • Hamburger

  • Rocket phoenix, domination/do mini nation

  • Maybe a rayne bromance if you have one around.

I feel like the distinction of note for microscope decks is if you can stand on the trucks or not. On the bromance I can stand directly on the drops and be right on top of my trucks.

On a theory you can't stand bolts/on the drops really, it's more like a classic dropdeck where you're behind the trucks in the dropped platform.

I briefly tried the new pantheon deck, anf it felt more like a theory to me with the whole "in between the drops" stance.

Both versions of drops are nice, but I kind of prefer the smaller "on top of trucks" drops lately.

What I really don't care for is when the wheelbase is small but you can't stand on your trucks (that smaller prism dropdeck for instance, that thing sucks).

  • @Kurt Derow descent katana, zenit marble, the arbor freeride boards, pantheon chaisy, lisa and kenny, the new wolfshark

  • Throwing the Happy Thunder concave (any of the available shapes) would be neat, considering the use of a single micro drop in the rear. Pretty sure the Ghost from Madrid, as well as a couple other small boards, share the same design mentality.

  • Do we count decks that have a bit of rocker up front as having a microdrop? It ends up with a similar thing, but it lets you get a lot further onto the truck

  • I'm leaning more towards the drops between the trucks styles. I've got the Theory, the Sacrifice, the Cheesegrater, and Chaisy, so far on the decks to review. Hoping for a chance to add the Foster Hydra to the mix.

    So far my notes are

    Prism Theory

has a big stance platform and is useful if you move your feet around.
the drop pocket on the front of the theory feels a bit to far from the trucks to get the optimal steering for whipping into slides but feels very nice sideways.
back concave is great for referencing toesides with the little bumps.

    Pantheon Sacrifice

    pretty ideal concave for freeriding

smaller width and tighter stance focused concave makes for no need to move feet around your always right where you wanna be.

mellow concave mixed with narrow width feel very ergonomic.

never need to move feet when gearing up for big squats slides, toesides, 180's, switch slides, or hands down drifts.

getting low on this deck feels incredible.

    light weight and very fun.

    Landyachtz Cheesegrater

This deck as very nimble and stiff construction allowing to finesse slides with very minimal resistance.

w concave is intense and great for standup Freeride but is a pain for tucking.

trucks mount very close to microdrops so is  exceptionally nimble.

hollow tech construction is great and really ups the rigidity and light weight.

concave can be hard to find since it's drops are more mellow.

    Pantheon Chaisy

Flows in and out of concave so feels very organic.

slides like a drop deck, performs like a racing deck,

hard to hold out slides on symmetrical setups due to width and directional concave.

light and rigid great for snappy slides in steep terrain.

    kicktail

  • @Kurt Derow Nice video, pretty informative. I was looking forward to get a deck with microdrop for freeride so this was very informative, thanks for the closeup shots too!

  • @Gabriel Fockler

I love the feel of the microdrops, but yes, you're right, the vast majority of them force you to put your feet between the trucks to ride comfortably, which is not ideal for modern setups or riding style.

My rocket do mini nation has an extreeeemely soft microdrop that feels more like a mini rocker than anything else and feels great for riding with your feet on the truck, but again, i'ts so small that it probably doesn't provide any real advantage.

  • @F Llabata out of most microdrops I've ridden the ones that lean full drop are Defo having that issue. As for the ones which tackle that issue the best so far for me it's been the Pantheon Sacrifice and Chaisy, and Landyachtz Cheese grater. The drops aren't super significant on them but they definitely fit the bill. I think your looking for the sacrifice.

  • Great, thanks for the tip! I was honestly looking for the cheese grater, but mostly because I really like Landyachtz. I will take the sacrifice more into consideration now though.

  • @F Llabata Landyachtz blaze and freedive have great drops you can stand atop of without being obtrusive. The blaze is more mellow but both feel great

  • @Logan Neikirk it's always tripped me out people race on the Blaze with a drop. Must be more of a drop mount. Basically pushes the flushes through the top of the board so they feel like "drops".

  • @Logan Neikirk Ohhhh I took a look at the Blaze and it looks very very good, lots of short-ish wheelbase options and good width for 150mm hangers with freeride wheels, which I already have.... Damn, there are too many good boards on the market! 😂😂😂
