Gold Slalom Modding

  • Been playing around with different ways to bring up the responsiveness on the gold rogues - here is my current "max responsiveness" setup for them.

    Rayne Libido

Gold Rogues (I recommend 55* 23*) with sphericals (blue/pink cones front, glow/green barrel rear)

    Avila 3DM Seismic Wheels

  • Nice one, looks like a fund set up.

What sphericals did you use? I have the don't trip ones in mine but I needed a few layers of teflon tape to stop the play.

  • @bastiweber1987666

I am doing the same with mine - don't trip sphericals with Valkyrie tall to standard bushing shims.

if I were to do it again, I'd probably just get all the parts of DT site since they have the best prices on both sphericals and shims from wht I've seen.

  • I have ptsd from wobbling out on bear smokies in 2011 so I am anti spherical bearings.

  • @Gabriel Fockler I think your ptsd should probably be directed toward the smokies ngl 🤣

  • Nah this thing a part from shredding looks beaaaaautyful man, the color matching is inmaculate 🔥🔥🔥

  • Its key to remember to mend/attend to whichever issue your rouges came with, I think only bout 1/3 came out perfect.

No shade to rouge, wrong works with em and I ride em myself.

  • @Matt Needs Wheels I haven't found anything on my set - this is my second set of gold rogues.

First set I chopped the kingpin down a bit for wheel clearance but haven't done that with this set, probably won't end up doing it again.

I haven't teflon taped my inserts but I am about to go double check for play.  They seemed pretty solid in there but I'm always open to ways to achieve minimal slop.

  • @Michael Adams Dope, they are solid trucks, obviously you have had some experiance with em, but for anyone else readin this its good to make sure the boardside bushing doesnt need a washer under it. And if your kingpin is too long- they are basicly pressed in so getting a longer kp nut or chopping it down and retreading it ensure you can still get your trucks apart after scraping.

Also the pivot cup can get eaten away at quicker if the milling is off in the rear, check yours.

  • You put standard sized bushings in? Bro your gonna have a bad time.

  • @Kurt Derow false!

The traditional RKP rogues may feel worse but the slalom geometry benefits greatly from standard bushings when you are looking for more responsiveness - hence why Zak shifted to standard height for ZM1s.

Gold slaloms are super "dead" feeling compared to ZM1s so the goal with these modifications are to increase responsiveness off the center point to build a giant slalom setup with some downhill capabilities.

  • @Michael Adams hmm I dunno man... the rogues are just so turny and have a very large articulation in lean from center to edge, I feel that with standards it's going to feel either A. Very floppy, or B. Way to loose.

  • @Matt Needs Wheels WRONG (about the boardside bushings) I discovered an issue with multiple batches of Gold Rogues, even the naked Maryhill edition ones. A few of the batches got their rear baseplate OVERmilled. You can see it by looking at the pivot going into the baseplate. It's not a lot, about a washer width, but that little bit unevenly wears on the boardside bushing, and deadens the back truck as you weight it. Peep this post on patsrisers to see the TRUTH

  • @Tim Cernanec after further testing of this set I have in this photo, I confirmed the rear truck is over milled - I have another set of urethane washers coming to get it sorted!

  • @Tim Cernanec Wym wrong? I said to check for that issue, if you have that issue ofc- fix it, not all do, they have had a few batches.

  • @Matt Needs Wheels sorry I read your comment as "make sure you dont need washers boardside" because I've seen people rock em in both trucks before. So I was agreeing about the front not needing one, but yes the back does need one. A mishap of skim reading and misinterpreting. But i did want to add links to the argument to solidify it for everyone else in the convo
